Notes on the recent District Governor’s Meeting

The recent District Governor’s meeting was held at Arden School, Knowle on the 13th March.

Reports were submitted by the: – District Governor Steve Cartwright , District secretary, Treasurer and other various District Officers details of which are on the web site.

There was a very interesting presentation about the “Rotary Wheel Appeal” by Roger Surgeoner a retired paralympic athlete with 9 gold medals. He told us a lot of information about the specialist wheelchairs athletes use particularly the carbon fibre ones used in basketball.

Stuart Guy a previous president of Birmingham Rotary Club gave a very interesting presentation on “Rotary & the Environment”. He took a more realistic view as to how Rotarians can easily modify their life styles to achieve a reduction in their carbon footprint. Interestingly he said car sharing was one of the most effective methods and could in certain circumstances, equal public transport.

Paul Beedham reminded us of the District Peace seminar to be held on the 20th April in Bedworth. He recommended members attend this morning session if they can.

Generally it was a very interesting evening and it provides a useful forum where we can learn about the work of the district Rotary clubs.

The next meeting will be in September with a new district Governor.
