President Elect’s Address to the Club Assembly

President Elect Tony welcomed members to the Club Assembly by saying his plans for the forthcoming year will be in line with the 2013/14 Rotary theme of, “Engage Rotary – Change Lives“.

Tony said “Engage Rotary – Change Lives” reminds us that as Rotarians we need to be proactive within Rotary. Our actions in Rotary help to change the lives of others but we need to get others to engage with Rotary as their support is vital in helping us to help others.

Consequently he has decided that in his year as President he would like the Club to engage more with the local community. In particular he hopes to develop a close working relationship with a local school to:

  • Provide some funding for an important project within the school.
  • Encourage the school’s students to take part in the Rotary competitions for young people.
  • Encourage students to raise funds for a Rotary overseas project.
  • And to set up a “RotaKids” club at the school to persuade young people to become the Rotarians of the future.

Also during the forthcoming year of Tony’s Presidency, the Club’s International Committee will be undertaking a fellowship visit to Cyprus where books, teaching and other equipment will be donated to a local Cypriot school and a home for elderly people. The Club Foundation committee will be raising funds to support the work of the Bromsgrove Stroke Centre and for the provision of specialist wheelchair for a competitor in the next paralympic games. Young people are to be encouraged to become involved with debating, photography and cooking through the Club’s “Vocational Service Committee, while annual holidays in Blackpool for the elderly and “Kids Out” days for disadvantaged children will continue to be facilitated by the Club Community Service Committee.

Tony confirmed the Club will continue support for the events it has long been associated with as well as adding some new exciting projects during the coming year.
