Visit of District Governor to Bromsgrove – 10 October

The Rotary Club of Bromsgrove was delighted to welcome District Governor 1060 Dr Charan Bunger MBE to our Fellowship Meeting on 10 October 2017. On this occasion, we were privileged also to receive three Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Bangalore in India, which is in District 3190. Our Club had invited Chris Smith the new Headteacher of South Bromsgrove High School to visit with four students to speak about their experiences on the Brilliant Club’s Scholars’ Programme, as our members had supported financially the enrolment of a number of students to extend their horizons and develop their aspirations regarding higher education. After an introduction by Mr Smith, the students gave a lively and polished account of their substantial learning and development on this challenging programme, which had included tuition by a PhD student looking at cancer data analysis, and visits to both Trinity College in the University of Oxford and the University of Warwick. After our meal together, our visiting Rotarians from Bangalore spoke about their Club comprising over 250 members and their work to create ‘Happy Schools’ in India, and their work and funding of superb medical facilities, including the establishment of a blood bank and opportunities for cataract and dialysis treatment. Our President Amal Rampal exchanged banners with our visitors. Finally, the District Governor gave us news of developments and events in Rotary nationally and internationally, and explored the relationship between District 1060 and Clubs at the local level, promising to support us to the best of his abilities. A very full and enjoyable evening was had by all our members!
