Rotary in Bromsgrove www.bromsgroverotary.org.uk came together with the Bromsgrove Bluegrass Bash www.bromsgrovebluegrassbash.com to entertain the shoppers with a music event in Bromsgrove High Street on Saturday 9th July to support BURNAID www.burnaid.co.uk
BurnAid is a small local charity which supports burns survivors and their families at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. These two Burn Centres are the only two for the West Midlands Region serving a huge population and extending over a seventy mile radius around the two hospitals. It was also a great opportunity to get out there and showcase what Rotary does.
Our thanks go as always to Andrew Wuzik who organised and staged the event supported by our President Tony Docherty and other members who turned out on the day to rattle buckets for the cash donations. Over £200 was raised on the day to support the charity.
A group of Chadsgrove students visited Drayton Manor recently and the trip was funded by Bromsgrove Rotary and the KidsOut charity. The class teacher sent us the following comments:
‘Our class trip to Thomas Land, funded by The Rotary Club, was fantastic! Most of the children had never been before and they were so excited to go on the rides. The park was quiet, so we managed to get on lots of rides, including the very fast Troublesome Trucks Rollercoaster. Turns out, we have lots of adrenaline thrill seekers in 3LS! We even got to meet some of our favourite characters from Thomas the Tank Engine.
As well as having lots of fun, the trip was a great way to practise skills we have been learning in class, such as waiting our turn (we were very impatient to get on the rides!) and managing ur emotions when we felt a little nervous!
Thank you to Rotary Club for giving us this opportunity.‘
Bromsgrove Rotary is delighted that a class of students were able to visit Birmingham Sea Life Centre recently with the help of funding by our Club and the KidsOut charity. We received the following note and accompanying photo from a member of staff:
‘Thank you so much for giving us the tickets for the Sealife Centre.
We had a great day . The children found it to be an adventure . One of our pupils said ” This is the best day ever”
Without your valuable support this trip would not have been possible.‘
Our President Elect Faisal Sharif has been involved in organising a table tennis tournament at RGS Dodderhill School in Droitwich for Bromsgrove players partly sponsored by Bromsgrove Rotary. The tournament started on 17 June and is continuing. Faisal even had to step in and play last week himself! Some great pictures capture some of the players in action.
Bromsgrove Rotary working in partnership with the KidsOut charity have funded a number of summer excursions for local children attending Chadsgrove School, Aston Fields Middle School and St John’s Middle School. Teachers have organised trips to different venues including Avoncroft Museum, Birmingham Sea Life Centre, Black Country Living Museum, West Midlands Safari Park and Drayton Manor. Pictured are students from Chadsgrove enjoying their visit to the Avoncroft Museum.
Rotarians in Bromsgrove are full of praise for local host families providing a home and safe environment for Ukrainian displaced adults and children so sadly affected by the war in Ukraine. The Club is grateful for the funds made available by Rotary International and is using some of its own charitable funds to allocate to Ukrainian guests to help them settle in. Working in partnership with sponsors in host families we are seeking to allocate emergency funding as quickly as possible to support immediate needs.
The Club is very pleased to be able to fund equipment for Bromsgrove Community First Responders and support their operational needs at a cost of £2500. Community First Responders are volunteers who respond in their own time and without pay to emergency 999 calls within their local community, and as lay people generally they receive the necessary training from the ambulance service. The Responders are expected to raise money to cover the costs of their uniform, equipment and vehicles, with training and consumables provided by the ambulance service.
The Club is delighted to be able to support a student with a visual impairment at South Bromsgrove High through the purchase of equipment at a cost of some £840 which will allow the student to achieve their full potential.
Our club is delighted to be able to support a young and enterprising local cellist on her musical journey. She has been awarded a place in the National Scout and Guide Symphony Orchestra and will take part in a ten day residential course in the summer culminating in three performances in August 2022 in the Midlands, one of which will be in Coventry Cathedral.
